TEACHING Tuesday - July 31

Today, I thought I'd write a little about using vellum on your layouts. Most people don't like to add vellum because they may be unsure as to what adhesive to use -- traditional adhesives such as glue sticks, tape, and glue dots will show through the vellum. There are a variety of ways that you can adhere vellum.

  • Punch holes through your vellum and your background, and use ribbon to tie the vellum to your page.
  • Use brads or eyelets to attach the vellum.
  • If you use glue or tape to attach your vellum, cover the adhesive with buttons or other embellishments.
  • Sew or staple your vellum to the layout.
  • You can buy adhesive that is made especially for vellum.

More about Amanda....

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? I LOVE my scrapbook space…well mostly….my dad just built me a scrapbook cupboard/workspace and I LOVE it! But the only downfall is it’s in our living room!

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? I scrapbook with pretty much EVERY colour…the only colour I don’t use is purple. I’m not a big purple person.

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? Yes, on top of my scrapbooking, I make cakes…I’ve done many wedding cakes (including my own!) and I love to cook and create my own recipes.

What scrapbook magazines do you read? Any thing by Paper Crafts…EVERY issue of Paper Crafts and any of their special issues!!

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? Oh I’d say, at least 12 inches high!!!!

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? Depends on my mood that day!!! Sometimes I’m working on three different things at once so yes, I’m very messy….but other days, I just can’t work like that!

Anything else you want to share? Thank you so much for this opportunity to be a part of your sisterhood and I’m so glad to be in the company of some incredibly talented group of women.

Sketch Saturday-July 28th-Lucy Chesna

Today our feature sketch artist is Lucy Chesna....

Hi, my name is Lucy Chesna and I am from Billerica, Ma. I am married to my best friend for 11 years and we have two beautiful children. I am SAHM and love every minute of it!

I am completely addicted to scrapbooking, message boards and sketches. I started scrapbooking right after my son was born in 1998 but got into it more in 2001, when my daughter was born and the rest is history. I got into my first message board in 2002 and I got hooked and became a better scrapbooker because of it. There is so much talent out there that that I absorbed all that information and added my own twist to it. The sketches started in 2004 when I had to create a sketch for a contest, I didn't win but it opened the flood gates to more sketches eventually to my own sketch blog this year.

I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by talent ladies in the past few years and I thank them for inspiring me every day. I am owner and designer of my own scrapbook community Memories from Scrap .I am DT for The Kits Meow , Scrapbook Doodle and Crop-a-Latte ,Happy Scrappin Scrapbooking and GDT for 3 months at Treasures to Scrap .
I am a Sketch Designer for Scrapbook Oasis and Serendipity Kits.

I have published many times in ScrapStreet and Becky Fleck Newsletter

I am crew member of Pubcalls .

I have my own sketch blog called My Sketch World that I post weekly sketches and have layout examples from The Sketch World Divas. You can find more of my work at my blog .

Here is a sketch that Lucy has provided for us. I LOVE the arrows in this sketch! Looks like such a fun sketch to play with! Thanks so much ,Lucy!
If you try Lucy's sketch, please let us know in the comments. We'd love to see it! Have a happy Saturday, everyone!

TEACHING Tuesday - July 24

I thought I'd post a little tutorial this morning.

I've seen lots of scalloped cardstock lately and with all the colors, it's difficult to know which ones to buy. If you have a corner punch, you can easily make your own scalloped cardstock or patterned paper.

I used my EK Success punch, and I removed the bottom piece.

Then, it's just a matter of lining your punch up along the edge of your paper. It's easier to do it upside-down as you can see where to punch.

Continue along the length of your paper and you're done!

SISTER Sunday - July 22

We want to thank our last eleven sisters for their involvement with our blog. You ladies did an AWESOME job!! THANKS so much!!

Please welcome AMANDA NEWTON as our "Sister of the Week" for July 22-28th!

Amanda is from Ontario, and is married with one son

Here is Amanda's layout for Week 12:
How/Why did you start scrapbooking? I started scrapbooking through Creative Memories but I needed to step of the box because I didn’t feel I could get creative enough…so I starting discovering other companies and embellishments and techniques. Now I’ve taken my creativity and turned it into a part-time business of creating scrapbooks for people and also I make greeting cards.

How long have you been scrapbooking? About nine or ten years now!!!

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? I don’t know why this hobby stuck! I’ve always been very creative and my family can attest to that…so I guess I love it because it’s just one more way for me to be creative!

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? Oh at least 15 hours a week!!! More if I have an order to work on.

How long does it take you to complete a layout? Depends on the intricacy of it! I did one the other day using paint and I think I did it in about two hours (including paint drying time!….Thank goodness for acrylic paints!!)

Where do you get your inspiration? Everywhere! I like to look at scrapping magazines and galleries of fellow scrappers but I also like to create unique and original layouts of my own.

Challenge # 7 The Journey called LIFE

The "walk of life" is a journey. Some journeys are exciting and full of fun and laughter...Others are heart-breaking, but yet a great learning experience. Sometimes we will say that at least we got to where we wanted to go, we reached our destination. But, you know, the journey is what gives us all the memories that we scrap from day to day.

Angie's challenge to us today is to scrap a journey. Here is her challenge.
Thanks, Angie, for also sharing your beautiful layout.

*I don't think you'll be able to leave comments in her blog unless you are registered.So, if you can't leave a comment there, please come back here and let us know about your layout.Thanks.

Completed:

Challenge #6...counting as we go...

Did you ever count things as you were strolling along, dawdling along the path(as our mom used to call it! Especially if she had sent us to the store or to neighbour's for something, and it was taking us a little too long to get back home!). You count all the pretty rocks you see, you count the butterflies, you count your steps, count anything as you go! And, of course, you would count it as the "Count" on Sesame Street did it!...1,1 beautiful butterfly...2,2 beautiful butterflies...and so on! Anyway, I'm rambling on, sorry about that! haha!

Our "sister" Kelli has a wonderful counting challenge for us today!
Ready...see how fast you can get there! 1..2..3..4.............

Challenge # 4-Follow the Leader!!!

Don't you just love playing "Follow the Leader" when you are going for a walk? The leader can get you to do exactly as she pleases-tip-toe, climb up on a rock, get on the ground and roll around, run as fast as you can, do ten jumping-jacks, dance like a fairy...

Tina's challenge is very similar to this game, but her challenge to us is to follow one of her layouts and create one of our own. (otherwise known as a scraplift, hehe!) This is going to be very enjoyable, as I absolutely adore Tina's layouts. I know you will too! Be sure to let her know that you have completed this challenge. Let us know too as we'd love to see your creation!

So, what do you say! Let's get a game of "Follow the Leader" going!!! Race you to Tina's blog!!!

Challenge #3-Weaving back and forth,in and out...

When you are strolling along, do you enjoy weaving back and forth the road? Well, not a good idea if there's traffic. But, if you are walking on a quiet road, then it is FUN, isn't it!

Well, Emily's challenge is all about WEAVING!!! But it's the paper kind of weaving! Go see!!!

Enjoy! Be sure to post on her blog when you do it, and come back and let us know too!

Here's mine for this piece of art. The colors inspired me, and the polka-dot background. Also see the circle pattern on the bottom of her dress?I used that on the bottom of my layout...And I distressed the edges as in the piece. Oh yeah ,and I used the word "stroll" in the title :o)

SKETCH Saturday...featuring DI HICKMAN!

From Di:
"I'm originally from England, moved over to the USA in 2001 and started scrapbooking in 2003 and never looked back! Well I guess I'm a scrapbook addict cos I do it all! Paper, digital, hybrid, cards, layouts, mini books, and I also design digital kits and templates. I love doing everything because it means I don't get bored! I have a very short attention span. I got my first publication back in 2005 when I discovered real people actually got published and thought I'd give it a try. In 2006 I got another couple of publications and my first design team. Since then things kinda snowballed over the last year. I've been very blessed to be on 2 manufacturer design teams (one heart... one mind and Boxer) and just recently accepted a position on the staff at scrapstreet ezine. My blog is where you'll find me most days, updating with layouts, design team projects and digital freebies. I have weekly card sketches; layout sketches a couple of times a month, and lots of other stuff going on too!"

Here are the Design teams that Di is on:
one heart... one mind; Boxer Scrapbooks; Treasures to Scrap; Scrapstreet Ezine; Shelle Pukas Designs ; Everyday Digital Scrapbooking

Her publications include: Simple Scrapbooks; PaperART; CorrespondenceART; Ready Set Create; Scrapstreet; Scrappin'Trends;

Upcoming publications for 2007: Scrapbook & Cards today; Scrapbook Dimensions; Scrapbooks Etc.

Check out her BLOG and her GALLERY !

Thanks so much Di for creating those sketches and a layout for us! You are a great artist! Keep up the awesome work!

Some of Jessie's favorites.......

and a tip to share.

Favorite Snack: Chocolate (preferably dark)

Favorite Drink: Latte

Favorite Paper: Basic Grey

Favorite Technique: 3D layering (even though its so tedious!!) and sewing

Favorite Embellishment: Flowers (usually featured on my LO’s)

Favorite Scrap Tool: Eyelet setter (more versatile than you think)

Favorite Adhesive: Tacky tape

Jessie's scrapbooking tip:

"Well, as I like doing sewing, here's a tip. Dont be afraid to sew out your doodle patterns as they can add some dimension to your LO and brings out your doodles more. I find its best to use DMC thread (mainly used for cross stitching) as they are very durable and come in a huge variety of colours."

TEACHING Tuesday...Week 13

White Journalling Pens

I am constantly on the lookout for GOOD white pens. I've tried many different kinds but I have settled on the Uni-ball Signo Gel Pen and I love it! I order them through a "Stampin' Up" rep.

I like to use my white pen for doodling but I also enjoy creating my title and writing my journalling with my white pen too.

Have you tried any white pens? If so, what ones and which do you prefer? Let us know.

This website is a great place to check out the many different pens out there.

*Psst, I have a Uni-ball Signo gel pen to give away during our CROP next week, so make sure you join us for a stroll!!

Here's a layout where I used the Uni-ball Signo Pen to create my title and the journalling (which was a quote).

(*that's my big boy! He started a summer job yesterday.I can't believe that I have a boy old enough to work and get a paycheck.Yikes!)

Have a great Tuesday!

SISTER Sunday - July 8th

Please help me welcome our newest sister, Jessie Pang!

Name: Jessie Pang
Home: Brunei
Tell us about your family: I am the eldest of 9 children

Here is Jessie's layout from Week 11:

Let's learn a bit about Jessie's scrapping

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? I have always loved putting things together and did the “non-proper” scrapbooking without knowing about all the acid free products. Once I knew about the market (January 2007), I started scrapbooking and shopping for it and I haven’t been able to stop!

How long have you been scrapbooking? Since January this year

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? I love how it catalogues parts of your life and my time scrapbooking is my time out from the stress of work and other things in life and I finish with a wonderful new product everytime!

How many hours a week do you scrapbook?
About 3 hours depending on whether I have the time. Not as many as most as I am a full time lawyer but I try my best to squeeze it in whenever I can

How long does it take you to complete a layout? Ranges from 30mins to over 2 days depending on how my mojo is doing.

Where do you get your inspiration? Mostly from magazines or visiting online galleries. Sometimes I even see it in clothes people around me wear.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why not take a look at Jessie's blog, Whispers of the Bamboo Forest.
Thanks, Jessie! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
FOTO Friday - July 6
Have you ever wondered how some people can get perfectly scanned photos of their 12 x 12 LOs without a 12 x 12 scanner? Have you ever tried stitching your LOs yourself but not had the same results?
Here's an AWESOME site for creating perfect panoramic photos that I use all the time for stitching my layouts.
AUTOSTITCH
Click on that link and then click where it says, download FREE demo version now
Once you have saved it on your computer you will soon find out how user friendly this program is the most USER friendly program.
Quick tutorial:
1. Scan your layout (all four corners) so that you have scans that look like this:
Top left /Bottom Left
Bottom Right / Top Right
The reason why we scan all four corners is so nothing gets lost on the LO.
2. Open up your AutoStitch program. Click where it says FILE then click OPEN.
3. Browse your documents to find where your four scans are located and selected them all at once. Click where it says OPEN, and it's that simple.
You may have to crop the final picture before uploading it to your gallery, but what you will have is a perfectly scanned and stitched layout!
Give it a try and share your layouts with us!
TEXT Thursday - July 5th
Gabi shared an awesome blog challenge with us. Here it is:
What does Writing do for you?
Do you find it hard to write? If so, why? Do you find it easy to write? If so, HOW?I would love to know what issues you may have about writing and hopefully, help you past them. You can learn SO MUCH about yourself by simply choosing a topic and writing about it for 30 minutes a day.
What I want you to do is to pick a topic.... ANY topic. IT can be 'flavors of ice cream' or 'breeds of dogs' or 'family resemblances' or something even deeper like "Democrats" or even "intimacy"
Take 30 minutes and write about it. What you DONT want to do is stiffle yourself. DO NOT scold yourself for writing something that you're thinking, do not stop yourself in mid-thought and restart. Go with the flow, keep writing until 30 minutes is up (or longer if you wish!)
***Once you're finished with this exercise I'd love for you to share the experience. How did the exercise make you feel? Did it turn out differently than you had originally thought? Did it turn out EXACTLY as you had thought? Did you learn anything about yourself during this exercise?
***If you want to BLOG this and share, please share your link here and if you are writing in a journal, you can post here and let us know what your experiences were as you were writing and how the exercise affected you. I would love to see how this exercise works for each individual.
TEACHING Tuesday - July 3
Today's tips come from our SISTER - Gabi!!
A favorite tip - My favourite scrapbooking tip is knowing what to keep and what to toss. For me, if it's atleast a 3 x 3 piece of larger scrap, I generally save it. I use those scraps in card making and for my diecutting machines.
A favorite scrapbooking technique - Inking! I am all about the ink whether it be edging, stamping or smudging!
Thanks Gabi!!
CHALLENGE Monday - July 2
Can't believe it's July already, but here it is! Time for another challenge :-)
***Your challenge is to use stamping somewhere on your layout.***
Send your layout to scoish3 @ rogers.com (remove spaces) by Sunday night, July 8th. We will pick a new sister from all the layouts submitted.
Let's see what your sisters have created for this challenge :-)
Gabi's stamped the flowers and added some bling to the centers:
Deanne stamped some flowers on cardstock and then cut them out and added to her page:
Carla stamped part of the title with ink:
Susan Stamped part of the title using paint and also stamped around the photo frame.
So....... get creating :-) If you haven't time this week, send in a layout that you've done recently! We'd love to see it!
