SISTER Sunday -Aug 31st

Yikes, last day of AUGUST!!!

That means we will be choosing a winner for the Purple Onion Designs stamps in the next day or so!!!

And we will find out who the NEW SPONSOR is!

Today, we introduce you to our next sister- TRACEY GORDON!

Name: Tracey Gordon

Home: Oakville, Ontario

Tell us about your family: I have been married for 4 ½ years although my husband and I have been together for 11. We have a beautiful daughter named Maya who just turned 2 years old. She is the center of our world!!

Who/What inspired you to start scrapbooking? I had a friend at a previous job who scrapped and introduced me to the hobby. Shortly after that we celebrated my mother’s 50th birthday so we decided to put together a scrapbook for her. A couple months after that was my wedding and my first big scrap project. The rest, as they say, is history!!

Does anyone in your family also scrap? Yep! I have lots of scrapping family – my mom and several sisters enjoy the hobby as well as a niece and an aunt. We try to get together to scrap but unfortunately aren’t able to make it work as often as we would like.

What size do you normally scrap? 12x12 for the most part but I have done some mini books in 8x8

What is your favourite colour scheme? Brown – most of my layouts have a little brown (often with pink) although I am trying to branch out to different colours.

How many hours a week do you scrap? It varies. Right now since I am on summer holidays I have been a scrapping machine but with the return to work next week I fear my mojo will dwindle.

What is one thing you always find yourself reaching for when creating a layout? Flowers – I love flowers!!

Describe your scrapping style in just three words. Clean, simple, classic.

Please welcome Tracey to the Sisterhood by leaving a comment here.
Check back tomorrow for Monday's challenge!

Let's get to know Gina some more!

Tell us about your favorite layout you have ever completed? Wow…I’m not sure this is my favorite, but its in the top 5 for sure. I just LOVE these pictures of my DS and the color editing I did in photoshop on the big photo turned out really well. The DPS is simple, but striking in my eyes. What do you love the most about scrapping? Being able to tell my kids stuff that they won’t understand now but will later in a beautiful and creative way.

What do you dislike the most about scrapbooking? Spending the money for new stuff!

Have you ever taught a scrapbooking class? No

Have you ever been published? No…but I did finally submit something for the first time ever last week!

What type of camera do you use? Kodak Powershot S5IS

I can't imagine my life without ...Christ. I pray that should everything and everyone else in my life fail I would still be able to say with Job, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord!”

FOTO Friday - August 29/08

There's been so much talk about going back to school lately, with summer coming to an end...but, I'm not quite ready for it to end yet.

So for today, we'd love to see those summer photos of you or anyone 'splashing and playing in the water'!

You can share a link to the photo or even a LO with a photo of someone 'splashing'!

In a couple of days I will pick one name from everyone that comments to this thread and send them a little end of summer RAK!!

Here's a photo I took this summer (this is a photo of Carla's girl).
And here's a LO I created a few months back with another 'splash' photo! This photo was taken my one of my siblings (Sorry...I can't remember which one!)

TEXT Thursday - August 28th

This time of year makes me remember the good times (and some bad) about going back to school. You just knew that sometime during the first week of school you'd have to write about what you did during the summer.

So, let's hear about your best (or worst) summer happenings! What did you do this summer?

TEACHING Tuesday - August 26/08

Our Sister, Gina, shares her favorite technique with us today! Here's what she says!

My favorite scrapping technique is sanding the edge of my pictures. I'm all about the shabby grungy style lately and I just can't seem to do a lo without SOME kind of border on my pictures. Since I've discovered sandpaper its been perfect! You can choose how much or how little you want around the edges of the picture and no matter how much you decide to do it just seems to give the picture that 'finished' look and makes it pop just a little bit more off your page. Also if you really want a lot of distressing use a sandpaper with a bigger grit (I think that's what its called!).

Thanks so much Gina!!

Gina says: The journaling pulls out from behind the photo. I did this page for a challenge to create a page about why you scrap. You can see all the deets of this page on my blog here

CARLACarla says, "I tried a different style with this layout and I love how it turned out. I love the candid shots of my three boys."

DEANNE Deanne says: My DH and I went to see Mamma Mia last week and it was the BEST movie!! I just had to scrap about it! I found a poster pic online and printed it off. SISTER Sunday - August 24th

Good morning! It's a beautiful, warm, sunny Sunday here in Newfoundland!

...And it's time for a new sister :-)

Please welcome Gina !!

Tell us about your family: I’m married to Tim who is great! We’ve been married for 5 years and he’s actually surprisingly helpful when I get stuck on a lo! We’ve been blessed with two crazy little people named Kessa (just turned 2) and Zeke (who is almost 8 months)…needless to say…we’ve got a crazy house sometimes!

Who/What inspired you to start scrapbooking? I actually got into scrapping HARDCORE through Stampin’ Up…in that Stampin Up introduced me to Splitcoast and Splitcoast introduced me to scrapping challenges and the on-line scrapping world…that happened probably 2 years ago or a little less…and now I’m crazy addicted!

Does anyone in your family also scrap? I’ve gotten my mom addicted to scrapping too…and I have an aunt who lives a few states away that scraps…we try to scrap together a few times a year and it’s a blast!

What size do you normally scrap? 12x12, I also enjoy mini albums but I just can’t seem to pull off 8.5x11s

What is your favourite colour scheme? Hmmm…tough one…lately I’ve been really loving really BRIGHT colors, but that are shabby, so with browns and tans

How many hours a week do you scrap? Ugh…probably more than I should but not as many as I’d like! ;)

What is one thing you always find yourself reaching for when creating a layout? Sandpaper!!!!

Describe your scrapping style in just three words. Distressed shabby chic

Gina's layout for Challenge 68:

Check out Gina's blogs HERE and HERE

And here's a link to Gina's gallery!

Please leave a comment and welcome Gina to the Sisterhood!

Be watching tomorrow for our Monday challenge. This is gonna be EASY, believe me!!! VERY easy!!!

SKETCH Saturday Aug 23-Jen (Roxybonds)

Happy Saturday, everyone!!

Our featured sketch artist today is Jen (Roxybonds)
Here's what Jen says-

I am Jen! I am a baseball wife to a hardworking coach and a mom of 2. I have a rough and tumble 2 1/2 year old boy and a darling baby girl. I teach Physical Education full-time and am a Close To My Heart consultant. I have been scrapping on and off for about 12 years and in the last 2 years it has taken over as my passion, my hobby, my outlet. I was using sketches so much that I started to draw my own. After much prodding by my friends, I started my own blog More of my work can be seen here.

Here are Jen's sketches and layout samples. She sent me 2 sketches because she couldn't decide which one to send.Well, I couldn't decide which one to post, so I posted both!!! Cool stuff, hey!!!

Thanks Jen!!!

Remember, scrappers, to let us know of you try Jen's sketches!!

TEXT Thursday - August 21/08

I LOVE to use quotes on my LOs. I think they are great for summing up what you want to say about a certain photo or just when your own words do not sound good enough.

This week on Create My Keepsake , one of the DT members, Shanna posted a great challenge to use a quote on a LO.

So, I decided to share her challenge here. Thanks Shanna!

Here are a couple of LOs I created in the past that where I used quotes:
