Teaching Tuesday-Sept 30th

Here's some advice from Mandee:

A favorite teaching technique is to always think outside the box!
Layout ideas are everywhere.
Be creative, don't just do it because it is what your neighbor is doing.
Find your own style and techniques that work for you.
Remember: There is NO wrong way to scrapbook, its all about fun.
Great advice, Mandee!!! Sometimes we as scrappers get stuck in a rut ,trying to emulate those "scrap celebs" out there and don't really find out own "style".We just need to do it for ourselves and never mind if it's worthy of praise from some unknown online scrapper on some forum somewhere in cyberspace.
HAVE FUN with your scrapbooking supplies and do it for YOU!!!!!

SISTER Sunday - Sept 28th

Time for another sister :-)

Please welcome Mandee Gillen. She will be sharing with us this week.

Tell us about your family: I am 31 years old and married my high school sweetheart. Jake and I have been married for 12 ½ years. We have two beautiful daughters Januaree age 10 and Autymm age 7. We have two of the cutest dogs on the block! Kylo (pug) and Daisy (weimeriner). My family is the best! We have tonz of fun together. Camping, cruising in our jeep to our favorite vacation spots and spending time with friends and family.

Who/What inspired you to start scrapbooking? In many ways my mom inspired me to scrapbook. Why? Well, you see growing up my mom took so many pictures and did what any mom would do, develop them. But that was it. (Sad) Me and my brothers and sister would pull out this big cardboard box and dig through pictures. Laughing and crying, there were so many memories. We would always try to sort them into piles but it never ended up working. So I took it upon myself to gather all of the pictures I wanted of me and my family and started to scrapbook them. You know back when there wasn’t anything except for "Mrs. Grossman" stickers and colored cardstock. (It’s ok, you can laugh with me or at me it’s all good) And that is where my adventure started. So thanks mom for making me see the light and keep those memories alive through the art of scrapping!

Does anyone in your family also scrap? My sister (I just converted last year), my mother-in-law, 2 sister-in-laws, and a couple of cousins. No, I still haven’t talked my mom into it yet. And YES the cardboard box of pictures is still growing. (ha ha)

What size do you normally scrap? 12x12 but I love altered albums

What is your favourite colour scheme? Pink and Brown

How many hours a week do you scrap? Well on a good week 10-15 and on a really good week 24-36 (that’s a day or two away from reality which doesn’t happen very often)

What is one thing you always find yourself reaching for when creating a layout? Rub-ons, oh how I love those dang rub-ons

Describe your scrapping style in just three words. Hybrid, Bright, Fun

~*~*~*~*~*~
You can have a look through Mandee's gallery. She says she only just started it, so there's not many layouts showing yet :-) She has a blog -- Scrappin Madge.

Show us what AUTUMN looks like in your part of the world! Here in Newfoundland, the leaves haven't changed colors much yet.

Here is a photo of my children in a "fort" they are in the process of building. The weather has been so nice -- cold in the envenings, but sunny during the day.

Trina's Favorite Layout....

Tell us about your favorite layout you have ever completed? My Fav is one I did when I first discovered my love for buttons. It has a black & white 8x10 pic of me and my husband.

What do you love the most about scrapping? I love shopping for and collecting supplies and of course, seeing the pages come together.

What do you dislike the most about scrapbooking? Aside from the cost, right now we're in the process of selling our house, so everything is packed in boxes and to find things. But my wonderful husband has a great answer to that problem. "If you cant find it and you need it, go buy more, I'm sure you'll use it sometime." Isn't he sweet?

What topic do you find the most difficult to scrap? The topics don't bother me; it's the journaling that gets me stuck sometimes.

Have you ever taught a scrapbooking class? No

Have you ever been published? No, I've never submitted anything to anyone.

What type of camera do you use? An inexpensive GE from Canadian Tire. But Santa knows I'm being very good this year so maybe he'll surprise me.

What would be your perfect day? A day with my new camera and my family on vacation. Maybe, at the family cabin. I'd love more family pictures. By time we're finished moving, I'm sure I'll need a vacation.

I can't imagine my life without ... my family.

TEACHING Tuesday - Sept 23rd

I know many of you don't want to hear the word "Christmas" yet (!), but I found this wonderful tutorial for a very cute Advent idea. I am printing the template and gonna TRY to get these done for my kids this year. I know what I'll have to put in them -- Lindor chocolates. None of the cheapy chocolate for them -- they found, and loved, my secret addiction :-)

Check them out! TREE ORNAMENT

SISTER Sunday -Sept 21st

Good afternoon, everyone!!!

Time for add another "sister" to the Sisterhood of Scrap!!!
This week, our sister is Trina Reid!

Name: Trina Reid

Home: Springdale, NL

Tell us about your family: I am a wife, My wonderful husband and I have been together nearly 12 years now. I am the mother of four, a girl 12 yrs and three boys 15, 16 & 19. I have three step-daughters and 4 almost 5 grandchildren.

Who/What inspired you to start scrapbooking? I’ve always collected the kids art work, school projects, awards and stuff and put it in albums, (& shoe boxes). A few years ago a childhood friend of mine who’s been living in Ontario for years told me about a scraping store she opened, I laughed till she explained it to me. I dabbled in scrap booking about 3 years ago ( I did 3 LO) That was before it caught on in Springdale, I recently got back into it and I’m completely hooked!

Does anyone in your family also scrap? My cousin digital-scraps and three of my sister-in-laws scrap traditionally and so does their daughters. Although none of them live near me so I scrap alone.

What size do you normally scrap? I started out doing mostly 12x12 two page layouts but now I’m doing one page 12x12 and recently I started card making.

What is your favorite colour scheme? Oh my, it’s hard to choose, but I love pink with any other color, I’ll stick it in anywhere I can.

How many hours a week do you scrap? Not as many as I’d like but probably more than I should, maybe around 6-8

What is one thing you always find yourself reaching for when creating a layout? Buttons!! I love buttons.

Describe your scrapping style in just three words. Fun, always changing

See some of Trina's layout in her gallery.

Thank-you Trina!! Be sure to come back tomorrow everyone to see what our Monday challenge is!!!
