I learned a great tip the other day from Maria at http://www.createmykeepsake.com/ ! Here's what she said about taking photos of animals in cages (for your next trip to the zoo??)

1. set your lens to telephoto
2.choose the AV mode and hold the aperture as wide open as possible
3.aproach the cage as close as safely possible and shoot. and the cage will just disappear.

Jayne's Favorite Layouts

Tell us about your favorite layout you have ever completed? This changes as I create them but my favorite pages to work on are slice of life type pages.

What do you love the most about scrapping? Everything! Seriously. Shopping, friends, design, products, memories, planning, photography, writing… and on and on – I just love everything about scrapbooking!

What do you dislike the most about scrapbooking? When people are made to feel their work "isn’t good enough" Every scrapbook page is beautiful because it has meaning to someone!

What topic do you find the most difficult to scrap? Pool pictures. I can never seem to find just the right colors. I always think they will be fun to scrap but they always give me fits!

Have you ever taught a scrapbooking class? Yes, many. In April of 2007, I started Feeling Scrappy - a place where we teach all kinds of scrapbooking classes on-line.

Have you ever been published? No – I have never submitted anything.

What type of camera do you use? I have several. The one I use most is my Nikon Coolpix 4800 – quick and easy pictures.

What would be your perfect day? A beautiful sunny day spent sightseeing in a far off land with my family

I can't imagine my life without ...my family.

TEACHING Tuesday - Sept 16/08

Good Tuesday everyone!

We have a VERY fun tutorial for you today from our Sister, Jayne! I love this idea and I'm sure you will too.

Puffy Paint Embellishments by Jayne Jones


Here is a one of the fun techniques I taught in a Feeling Scrappy class called “Paint the Town” It is a great way to add dimension and sparkle to your scrapbook pages.

1.) Gather your supplies:
Dimensional Paint (Scribbles is the brand I use)
Wax Paper
Something to Trace (stickers, chipboard, die-cuts, hand draw item, etc)
Glitter (optional)

2.) Put a piece of wax paper over the item you plan to trace. Here I used sticker letters. Give your paint a few hard shakes down to be sure the paint is at the tip then squeeze the paint on to your wax paper - applying slow even pressure as you trace your item. You want to put the paint on thick.

3.) If you would like to add some sparkle to your project, just shake a generous amount of glitter over your paint. You should do this right away while the paint is still wet. Shake off the excess glitter and return it to the jar.

4.) Let the paint items dry well. I let mine sit over night to be sure they are good and dry. Then just peel them off of your wax paper and there you have it – flexible, dimensional and sparkly accents for your page! I apply them to my page with glue or glue dots. Here are two examples of pages I did using this technique.

SISTER Sunday - September 14th

Another beautiful Fall day and ..... time for a new sister! Please welcome Jayne Jones to the Sisterhood!

Tell us about your family: My husband and I have been friends since the first day of 7th grade and have been married for 16 years. We have 3 active children – Jacob (13) Sam (11) and Abbie (10) plus a little princess pup Zoe. We currently live in Omaha, Nebraska but will be moving to Virginia for my husband’s new job as soon as possible (read as soon as our house sells!)

Who/What inspired you to start scrapbooking? From the time I was young – I was a saver of memories. I wrote in a journal on a regular basis, loved photograph and saved every ticket stub…so when I first started hearing the buzz about scrapbooking over 12 years ago now – I knew it was the perfect hobby for me!

Does anyone in your family also scrap? Unfortunately, no.

What size do you normally scrap? 12x12 with an occasional smaller gift album tossed in.

What is your favourite colour scheme? I love to work with fallish colors – golds, reds, browns and creams.

How many hours a week do you scrap? It varies but I would guess about 5 hours.

What is one thing you always find yourself reaching for when creating a layout? Well after the obvious paper it is always ink!

Describe your scrapping style in just three words. Balanced, layered and classic

SKETCH Saturday Sept 13th-Ann Seleshanko

Happy Saturday morning!!!

Our featured sketch artist today is ANN SELESHANKO.

Here's a little about her:

Hi my name is Ann and I'm very pleased to be a Saturday sketch artist. I've been married for 10 years and I'm a stay at home mom of two boys almost 6 and 8. They are the subject of most of my layouts. I live in Calgary, Alberta and there is no where else I'd rather be. I love being so close the the mountains. I'm a big history buf and have a degree in History. I've been scrapbooking almost 10 years and making cards for about 5 years. I'm totally addicted. I love sketches as a starting point for creating. I love how one sketch can take on so many different forms. I'm on the design team at Savvy 'n' Sassy and I also sketch/design for SheetLoad of Cards . I'm starting to dabble in photography and I'm hoping to take some courses now that the kids are back to school. I started a writting on a blog this spring and you can find me here. I hope you ladies enjoy the sketch.

What is a haiku?

Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. Haiku poets, write about everyday things. Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences. Usually they use simple words and grammar. The most common form for Haiku is three short lines.

The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables. Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind.

This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry!

My challenge for you today is to use a hiaku as the journaling on your LO!
