SISTER Sunday - August 3rd

Please welcome our first sister for August :-)

Tanya Smith

Tell us about your family: I am a self employed part time work at home mom. My husband is a perfect match for me and is an awesome hands-on Dad to our four imaginative, active kids (ages 9, 7, 5 & soon to be 3.) Between school, scouts, sports, work & family our plates are pretty full.

Who/What inspired you to start scrapbooking? I had a make-shift scrapbook as a kid with newspaper articles I loved, things that I wanted to see, etc… But I started scrapbooking as an adult after my now husband (then boyfriend) & I took a Mexican Riviera Cruise. I saw a scrapbook kit at Costco, bought it and finished it in one weekend- it had only solid color papers, very simple die cuts, and multicolored pens- very basic stuff but it was a start. I began scrapping (more obsessively) when my youngest son was born three years ago by that time I had discovered my local scrapbook stores and the online scrap world.

Does anyone in your family also scrap? I am the only one in my family that scraps- though my kids go through phases where they want to scrap too. I save pictures for those occasions. Right now my daughter (5) is very into creating with paper.

What size do you normally scrap? I normally scrap 12 x 12 but I have recently done a few 6 x 12, which were a lot of fun!!

What is your favourite colour scheme? I usually scrap bright colors but have noticed that I have been reaching for neutrals, any variation of earth tones seems to be what I reach for first.

How many hours a week do you scrap? Anywhere from 6-12 hours a week- it’s especially hard during the summer because I have my whole crew at home with me & they don’t want to entertain themselves while I scrap nor do they want to scrap with me.

What is one thing you always find yourself reaching for when creating a layout? I reach for my patterned paper with every project I do.

Describe your scrapping style in just three words. In three words, I would describe my style as "inky, eclectic, doodles."
