Why did Kim start scrapbooking??

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? I have always been crafty. I have tried everything from cross-stitching and knitting to beading and finally to scrapping. I think that I am more addicted to buying the things I need for a hobby than sometimes the hobby itself. Until I found scrapbooking that is. I just love it and wish I could find a career in it somehow.

How long have you been scrapbooking? A couple of years ago I tried it with very basic supplies – stickers and plain 8.5x11 coloured paper… I put it aside for a while and really began again about 1.5 to 2 years ago.

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? It’s a bit of instant gratification. Unlike so many other crafts – you can sit down and finish something pretty quickly. I love to make cards for that very reason. I just feel the urge to do something creative, so I sit down and just start. My dh is really supportive about it too and the kids love to see themselves and our family in the pages.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? It has been a bit more lately. It happens in fits and starts I find depending on what is going on in the family at the time. Right now about 2-4 hours per week mostly on weeknights after the kids are in bed.

How long does it take you to complete a layout? Totally depends. I have done them really quickly in about 1 hour and sometimes they take a few nights of work. I usually finish one LO before I start another though.

Where do you get your inspiration? I LOVE working on contests and challenges and then I look at the theme or contest outline and then dig through my pictures to find something cool I want to scrap. If not for a contest, then a cool idea for a LO theme will come to mind and I start with that. I almost never start from the paper product although I know many scrappers do.

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? I like where I work a lot. The table is the perfect height. The chairs are comfortable. The light is directly overhead and is on a dimmer. The problem? It’s my dining room table and so I feel guilty that my stuff is always spread out right there in the middle of that space.

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? I don’t have a fave really. I probably work with a lot more brights colours than pastels or duller tones. It’s funny because when I admire the work of others, it is exactly the ones opposites my colour choices that I gravitate to. Weird!

Kim says she is always looking for different ways to use normal scrapping tools. Take a look at her card below. What a unique idea to use the actual stamp pads to make flowers!!
