How/Why did you start scrapbooking? My grandmother kept her photos all over the place - loosely in drawers, boxes, basement, etc… So, for her 75th birthday I decided to create a scrapbook for her. I had never scrapped before and didn’t even know how to start. I got her three daughters together and we went through all the photos trying to figure out who was who.

How long have you been scrapbooking? Since 1998, so 9 years.

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? They creative process that I go through to preserve a memory.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? Around 15

How long does it take you to complete a layout? Way too long!!!

Where do you get your inspiration? Everywhere…sometimes the photo, sometimes an add, maybe the paper I’m using. Plus, there is tons of inspiration in on-line galleries and magazines.

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? I love that I have my own scrapspace! But, I’m not all that happy with it. I’m a very messy scrapper and my desk and everything around me is covered with stuff!

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? Anything that is not bold and bright.

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? I spend most my free time scrapping, though I do manage to get some reading and sudoko in!

What scrapbook magazines do you read? I think I have read all of them at one time or another.

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? Do I really have to measure? I’d say at least 3 feet thick.

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? Very organized when everything is put away. But once I start…totally messy!

TEACHING Tuesday - November 27

Todays' tip comes from our newest sister JANET!!

She shares an awesome tip about sewing on your layouts! Here's what she says!

Teaching tip - Ever want to sew on your layouts, but wondered what to do with the ends of the threads? I did and it took me awhile to figure out what to do. If the sewing is at the edge of the layout, I'll just wrap the threads to the back and tape down with acid free tape. But, if I'm in the middle of the page, then I'll thread a needle and either poke a new whole our use the previous to get the thread to the back. Then tape with acid free tape. I always tape with acid free tape whether I'm machine sewing or hand.

"Yep that's right, $1000 for a pumpkin. Our homeowner's association gives away pumpkins to all the kids in the subdivision. We pay approzimately $1000 in fees (actually it was $1118 this year); granted that money takes care of the pool, community center, landscaping, and common areas. It still cracks me up that they give away pumpkins and so I have named it the $1000 pumpkin!"

Favorite Snack: Anything so long as it’s chocolate!


Favorite Drink: Tea, milk, no sugar (well, I am English, after all!)


Favorite Paper: This week it’s still Daisy D’s Paisley Sugarplum (or possibly Bo Bunny’s Homespun Holidays) paper range – next week I guess it will be something else. I love, love, LOVE HOTP all of the time! LOL


Favorite Technique: Hmmmm! This changes on a daily basis too! At the moment I’m doodling a lot.


Favorite Embellishment: Silk flowers, chipboard, buttons, ribbon. Don’t make me choose one – it’s too mean!


Favorite Scrap Tool: A good pair of scissors – mine are by Janome. They cut beautifully & have cushioned, lilac handles. If I have them, patterned paper, a pen and some adhesive, I’m a happy bunny!


Favorite Adhesive: You can’t beat double sided tape. I use the 3mm width the most.

Here's a little more about Beverley!

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? I love my scrap space. Currently I have 10 feet of table space and a whole room for my stash. If anything, it’s actually too big. I’m downsizing to a 15’ x 7’ space but as it is being planned in advance this time, I think it will be perfect!

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? At the moment I’m loving red and black but I’m fickle, so it will be something different soon. I do like pink and girly stuff but I don’t get much chance to do that.

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? Nothing that isn’t paper related. I make cards, mini books and alter stuff as well as scrapbooking. I have been known to knit, do cross stitched embroidery and make stuff with felt (although I’ve never done felting). I don’t do sewing (other than on layouts) and I can’t draw for toffee.

What scrapbook magazines do you read? None! I look at some of the US/Canadian ones online but there aren’t any that I regularly read – I’d rather be scrapping! International magazines are harder to get over here & I’m not keen on the UK ones (there are only two titles left here). I have a close friend coming over from MA in a couple of weeks & if I’m lucky she’ll bring me some!

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? Don’t even go there!!

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? The messiest! I start off with 10’ x 2.5’ of table space and keep going until I’m in a 14” square. Then I clear up and start again.

Anything else you want to share? I’m soooo thrilled to be your sister! I’ve always wanted one and now I have lots, all over the world. How exciting! LOL

There’s loads more daily inspiration over at Blog ‘Til You Drop , a new challenge every Saturday and a monthly prize for the design team’s favourite entry. These girls never cease to inspire me!

And as you can never have enough freebies, make sure to visit My Creative Classroom . This is a fabulous new site, where I am fortunate enough to be on the Design Team. Some of the teachers there are offering free classes this fall (visit each class to see what they have available). TEACHING Tuesday-Nov. 20th

A couple of weeks ago we played the "Texas Hold'Em" game here and on "Teaching Tuesday" we had you all post tips and techniques.

Well today , I thought I'd post some of them here for anyone who may have missed the game or missed reading the comments.


QueenBee Rowe:
"I've only been scrapbooking since May, so I don't have many techniques to share, but I do have one tip that I've found really helpful. I found it difficult to start the holes to anchor brads on my layouts....it's awkward with the tip of scissors, and sometimes it damages or crinkles the paper. Someone suggested that I carry a simple little pushpin in my toolkit and use it to push a hole through the paper. It works like a charm. If you need to make the hole a little bigger, you can just wiggle the pin around a bit. It'll expand the hole without tearing."

"ok here is a little tip I discovered to help save on my "special" paper, but when I mat my photos I cut a square hole from out behind the photo, or anything else that I may be matting on the paper, this gives me a nice little scrap for my cards."

MsGrace:
"This is not a new idea, but one I have used lately. I have been using alot of my mixmatched chipboard alphabets. The ones that you just have leftover letters in & not enough for a full title. I choose the letters I need out of the pile of leftovers & then I paint them in one unifying color & use them. It has looked pretty cool."

"ORGANIZATIONAL tip--- I just bought a plastic silverware tray at Big Lots for two dollars...using it to organize my stamps and pads."

"My best organizational tip right now would be to put a peg board up in your scrap room. this way you can display layouts as well as keep many embellies right there facing you whenever you are creating a project."

"Tip for doing titles: If you are not good at cutting titles or don't own a die cut machine, you can readily utilize your alphabet stickers. You can add glitters to add dimension or adhere letters on cardtock and cut it into tiles or shapes that you desire (circle for example)"

"My favorite organizational tip is: I hang a lot of stuff up....as much as I can...i usually leave stuff in a package so I can hang it!! I have a slat board that I hang hooks on and have my stuff hung on it! And another one, i put my acrylic and unmounted stamps in CD cases and have an old CD holder on my table...it makes your stamps accessible and useable!!"

SISTER Sunday - November 18th

Name: Beverley Todd

Tell us about your family:
I’m married to Adam & have four boys aged 21, 18, 16 & 3. They are the main focus of my scrapbooking, although I do tend to scrap the little one most. We didn’t always have a camera when the older ones were small. The older ones (& their friends) are mindful of my scrapping habits, so when they have parties, go to gigs & festivals or have days out, they make sure to take photographs & run a disc off for me!

How/Why did you start scrapbooking?
I fell into scrapbooking by accident! I was contributing to a card making magazine in the UK and they released a new scrapbooking title: 12x12 Scrapbooking Magazine. I got some information about submissions from my editor and trawled the internet to find out what it was. My first submissions were published in issue two and I carried on contributing three or four layouts each month until the magazine closed a year later. The rest, they say, is history.

How long have you been scrapbooking? Three years

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love?
I know everybody says it’s about preserving your family heritage and leaving a legacy but for me that is a bonus. The thing I really love is the community. I have met so many fabulous and talented people – just by doing a bit of cutting and sticking! For me, it is about sharing a common interest and forging new friendships all over the world.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook?
On average, about 20 but it depends what else I have on. Some weeks it is more like 40.

How long does it take you to complete a layout?
Anything under 2 hours is rare. Mostly I’d say 3 or 4 hours.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere! Sometimes it’s a particular paper, photograph or embellishment – other times it will be a sketch or prompt from an online challenge. There are times when I have no idea where it comes from but I never question the mojo when it’s there!

SKETCH Saturday-Nov 17-Anne Hafermann

This week's sketch comes from...

Anne Hafermann!

Here's a little about Anne:

I am known by family and friends as Annie, but online and in print, I am Anne (long story.) I am from Seattle, WA, USA but have lived all over the world the last 7 years (currently living in Suffolk, England.) My family consists of two fantastic children, one boy, one girl and my fabulous husband...they are the light of my life and the subject of most of my scrapbooking.

I have been crafting since I can remember...sewing, making cards, making papers, and scrapbooking, However, it wasn't until my son was born, nearly four years ago, that I really became passionate about photography and scrapbooking. Now it's a huge part of my life; framing the way I look at the world, keep track of details and use photography to capture our lives.

I write and design for Scrapbook Magazine and Paper Craft Essentials (both UK publications). I'm a founding member of Pencil Lines, a sketch challenge blog. I also design for Scrapping Angels UK and Scrapping Angels Australia. I have had several layouts and cards published in Scrapbook Trends and Paper Trends. I've had the wonderful opportunity to teach in Europe and the United States.

All of that is really just icing on the cake...the most rewarding part of scrapbooking is looking through albums with my son, talking about our family, our travels, and our life. He loves to look at pages from when he was a baby, always marveling at pictures of he and my mom, saying "my grandma loved me so much so came to England to see me and she didn't even know me yet."

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? I love my scrap room because it have all I need in there.The room is 14 square meters. There is a 4 meter long table and a extra table where my daughter can sit a scrap with her mom. There is a TV and a bed to relax in.

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? I love colours but if I have to pick it must be orange, light blue and dark brown.

What scrapbook magazines do you read? My scrap corner ( Danish) CK, Scrapbooking MM (Swedish)

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? Way to thick!

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? both

Anything else you want to share? I'm so lucky to be designer for my local scrapbook store ,where I'm also teaching in different techniques like distress and doodling. I just love to teach and share my ideas. In august 2007 Denmark got its first Danish scrapbook magazine called My Scrap Corner and I'm so proud to be on the magazines design team.

Ever since Todd got his Harley in February, I've been addicted to anything with Harley Davidson on it. I checked out Ebay this summer..bad move! Ebay has anything and everything for a Harley fanatic like me. I got me a LOAD of shirts, 2 hats (I gave one to Jessica), a purse and sunglasses (for Todd). I finally had to put a stop to going to Ebay for fear that I might see MORE HD stuff I needed!

A Beautiful fall day in October turned out to be so much fun. We started out taking pictures that we could use for Christmas cards - very posed pictures. It turned out that the best pictures were the ones we took of you playing around in all the leaves. Isn't that the way it always is?

SISTER Sunday - November 11th

Time for a new sister of the week! Today it is Lisette Madsen from Denmark.

Tell us about your family: I have been married to Anders for about 12½ years. We have a daughter called Signe and she turns 11 the day before Christmas. We also have a crazy dog called Speedy, and yes, he is very fast!

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? I first heard about scrapbooking back in 1996 when my daughter was born. Iwanted to make a book for her, but I wasn't satisfied with those books in the stores. In my local hobby store I found a scrapbooking kit for beginners. The size of the layouts was A4( letter size) and the kit contents some cardstocks in different colours and stickers, no pattern papers at all. We didn't havethings like rub-ons, pattern papers, ribbons and such in Denmark back in 1996.

In November 2005 I searched for the word "scrapbooking" on the internet and was surprised to discover that scrapbooking is so big a hobby all over theworld and I have been addicted to scrapbooking ever since.

How long have you been scrapbooking? For real since November 2005

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? Telling my family's heritage. My family's and my story is very important to me and I think it is a gift for the future generation.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? It depends but about 10- 15 hours

How long does it take you to complete a layout? About 3-5 hours

Where do you get your inspiration? From magazine and internet galleries

Here's a little about Julee:

Hi, I'm Julee Tilman also known as Shadowcatcher on Splitcoaststampers.

I live in a quiet suburb of Boise, Idaho with my husband of 10 years and our very spoiled feline, Katie.

I love the art of gift and card giving and naturally gravitated to rubber stamping about 13 years ago.

Although I do many types of papercrafting projects, my real love is cardmaking.

After several years in the graphic design industry, I recently decided to design my own line of rubber stamps.

I now own and operate Verve Visual, where I sell my stamps and other papercrafting gadgets and gizmos.

In my spare time I share my cards and sketches on my blog, Poetic Artistry, and design card for The Cat's Pajamas.

Everyone knows that a photo is worth a 1000 words.

For this challenge I would love to see you post a photo on your blog and tell a 'story' about that photo!

If you don't have a blog, create a LO using the journaling to 'tell' the story of the photo.
