Yaah! Time for another giveaway!
Rocks in My Dryer is hosting a great Bloggy Giveaway where hundreds of bloggers have joined in to give out free stuff. Even though we are already giving away a LOT of prizes from our crop last week, we couldn't pass up this opportunity :-)

Ok, I must admit that I had to do a google search on this one!! Here's my fact: The island of Newfoundland (originally called Terra Nova) was named by the Italian John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) in 1497. My 2 year old daughter loves books! Thanks!

I too had to do a google search. I found out that the island of Newfoundland boasts North America's oldest city, St. John's. And on a personal note I saw lots of pics and it looks amazingly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know that at 9.40 tonight. July 23 it was 27 degree's in Mary's Harbour. I live in Saskatchewan and wanted to do something different and since it was so hot here it was all I could think about.LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, I did the research in my favourite chinese search engine and found out it is the largest island in Eastmost North America. It's beautiful!

Newfoundland has a dialect of English known as Newfoundland English and a dialect of French known as Newfoundland French. It once had a dialect of Irish known as Newfoundland Irish, as well as an Amerindian language, Beothuk.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Newfoundland, I was told there are more moose than people. I don't if that's true, but we saw lots of moose (mooses?) while we were there!
Two of my dearest friends live in Newfoundland does that count? :)

I love to google....Newfoundland was the first to find a vaccination for small pox. By the way, we love books and are excited to read any kind!

ReplyDeleteThe thing I new about Newfoundland is that people up there are kind and generous - which I learned from reading the book The Day The World Came to Town! =)
I think I have also read that some fiction book that takes place in Newfoundland claims people there eat squid burgers - and it is not true at all LOL!

Let's see...according to my "WOW Canada" book, "Newfoundlanders call all lakes "ponds," no matter how huge." This was in reference to Western Brook Pond. Of course being from Saskatchewan, the place where you can stand on a stool and watch your dog run away for three days, I wouldn't know that if it weren't for the book. (grin!) I love books and my kids love to read. Count me in. One interesting fact I found is that Newfoundland has North America's oldest city, St. Johns. It looks like a very neat place.

ReplyDeleteI live in a community actually where there's a lake called Crescent Lake. (and there's believed to be a monster living there, called Cressie)Do a google search for "Cressie Monster Robert's Arm Newfoundland". There's been a few in the community over the years who have claimed to have seen it!
There are also Gander Lake, Lake Melville, Grand Lake and Quidi Vidi Lake to name a few more.
As for the underground salmon pool, we have a couple of places in Newfoundland where you can walk underground and watch salmon and trout swimming around. They have plexiglass windows set into the walls. There's a Salmonid place in Grand Falls-Windsor and a Fluvarium in St. John's. I've been to both and they are awesome!
